Grand Rapids Dreams added two new members to the board. Mrs Pamela Benjamin and Mr. Kevyn Milton joined the board at the October meeting. Both Mrs. Benjamin and Mr. Milton are long time residents of Eastown. Both have been involved with the Eastown Neighborhood Association.
Pamela Benjamin helped initiate the Beyond the Corners summer program when she served as the chair of the Eastown Community Association. She has written grants adn raised money to fund that program in every year of its existence.
Kevyn Milton has been a long time community activist in the city of Grand Rapids having been more recently involved in the Michigan Prison Reentry Initiative. He has actively promoted and supported the work of Grand Rapids Dreams since its inception.
The Grand Rapid Dreams board is receiving training in the policy governance (Carver Model) approach to board governance as a part of its ongoing board development training. The training being provided by Mr Stan Greene who has led several local non-profit organizations through this process.
This opportunity was provided through a capacity building grant from the Michigan Non Profit Association.
Grand Rapids Dreams has received a capacity building grant from the Michigan Non-Profit Association. The grant which is a part of the Recover Michigan Now program provides resources and tools for developing non profits to build organization capacity. The grant is a result of participation in a strategic planning process for organization development which was funded also by the Michigan Non-Profit Association.
Grant funds will be used to develop board governance, build a fund base and provide support and technology resources for program development.
